These reptiles belong to the superorder Chelonia and order Testudines. The turtles need both, dry conditions and water to survive and develop. Different turtle species have different requirements, depending on their particular habitat. It is therefore, necessary to understand and perform research on the original habitat of a particular turtle species, if one is thinking of raising them in aquariums. For an outdoor environment, care should be taken to see that the turtle gets enough space, shade and sun light. If possible, arrangements for a pool, deep enough for the turtle to swim should be made. It is therefore, necessary to take great care for maintaining these turtles as pets.
